WINE NOTES: Our 2015 Reserve Marlborough Pinot Noir displays lovely ripe berry and dark cherry fruit notes combined with attractive smoky and spicy elements. Fleshy berry fruits and spicy oak nuances are to the fore on the full, rich palate. Elegant silky tannins balance the generous fruit flavours and meld seamlessly together to a lingering, elegant finish.
CELLAR: Careful cellaring will be rewarded over the next 3-5 years.
AWARDS / REVIEWS: 91 POINTS – Bob Campbell MW Fresh and flavoursome pinot noir with red cherry, fresh herb and subtle oak flavours. Quite a high energy wine, with good acidity helping drive a reasonably lengthy finish. Should develop well.
GOLD MEDAL: New Zealand International Wine Show 2016
VINIFICATION: The Pinot Noir grapes used in this wine were sourced from four premium vineyards in the Marlborough region. Three of the four vineyards are located in the renowned Southern Valley sub-region of Marlborough. Pinot Noir grapes from this exciting sub-region are grown on sloping vineyards that have a higher % of clay based soil and naturally reduced yields. This offers us the ability to craft wines with lovely structure and concentration. Small parcels of quality fruit were harvested when optimum levels of ripeness and flavour were achieved. A combination of both traditional and new world winemaking was used in the making of this Reserve Marlborough Pinot Noir. As fruit was received into the winery, each parcel was treated separately, the fruit being crushed into small and medium sized fermentation vessels. The fruit was cold soaked then inoculated using a selection of wild and traditional Pinot Noir yeasts. Gentle plunging of the cap occurred 2-3 times a day until the wine was pressed off skins, some directly to a selection of French Oak barriques. The individual parcels of wine were matured for a 9 months in barrel before blending and subsequently aged for a further 4 months in tank before bottling.
